  • Good, and fair review. (I loved the movie, but I also love good reviews)

I see where you are going about there being a wall of believability when it comes to the realism of the film. Coming in spoiler-free, I wasn't expecting that at all, but in terms of establishing Gotham's need for heroes and hope, I think the film did that, I dunno if that was the only point though. Gotham needed heroes and hope so badly that they did pin their hopes on a very unlikely source, Dent, but he too, was only a man. I found it believable, if a bit paternalistic, that Batman/Gordon would feel the need to protect the secret of his murders to keep the city's faith.

I've got more, but it's morning and my boss is looking at me.
  • I did see Gotham's need for hope, certainly, but the movie didn't really establish to me their need for heroes, especially not their need for Dent. But you're right in that the movie had other points and did succeed on some of those.

I should make a Wordpress theme that looks like MS Word or something!
  • Bleeding hell, why can't I add your page to my LJ list. Anyway, as for your review...

Personally, I think Nolan did a great job at showing how Gotham needs a hero. Throughout the entire movie, you see Gothamites terrified by all the people dying around them, and during Dent's press conference, the attendees kept complaining about "No more dead cops!" and whatnot.

I also disagree that the sonar technology was a deus ex machina. The basic concept for the technology was established early on in the film when Batman and Lucius had to find a way to capture that Asian dude, and knowing Batman's genius, it wouldn't be much of a stretch for him to apply that technology to a bigger scale.

If you've been keeping up with my own posts, you'd know what my gripes about the film are. That all said, I think the good vastly outweighs the bad, so this movie easily made for one of my favorite films.
  • Yeah, but it's a huge stretch for even a genius, especially one as busy as Batman, to apply it that quickly. At the very least, we're talking about a years long progress for a large team of sharp engineers.

I still don't get why they need Dent, though. I think I skipped your post to avoid spoilers. I'll check it out sometime.

I think that, to add feeds to LJ, you need to be a paid member.
  • In almost every incarnation of Two-Face, Harvey Dent was seen by the public as some shining figure. His eventual transformation into Two-Face is a big deal because it contrasts so much with how good Dent used to be, so Dent's role as the 'White Knight' was appropriate in this movie.

Nah, you don't need to be a paid member to add feeds. I'm on a plus account and I was able to friend your previous account and the XKCD feed.
  • My point is that they told you that he was a shining figure, but never, ever established (at least in this movie) why any citizen would idolize the district attorney any more than any citizen in any real city would care about the district attorney.

Well, you need to be a paid member to set up a new feed:

    http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bm...
  • The faq says that you need to be a paid member to -set up- a new feed, but it doesn't say much about friending feeds. How did you make your previous feed friend-able on LJ?
  • Someone else (a paid member) set up the feed on LJ. So, until a paid member decides to set it up, I guess people'll have to live with plain RSS.
