It's kind of like Daley's GOTV efforts in Chicago. Having 70% of the voters favor you is great, but it doesn't mean anything unless you get them to actually vote.

I'm probably going to Iowa at the end of September, but might end up going to Wisconsin or Indiana on some other weekend instead.

Here in Seattle, where many neighborhoods like mine are 80% Democratic, a lot of the canvassing effort has focused on voter registration. Lots of people are already registered, but have moved, changed names, or have been meaning to sign up to vote by mail, so we end up harvesting lots of extra votes that way.

Thanks for explaining this to me ... it makes perfect sense, I don't know why I didn't realize this is what it's all about. Now I feel better about trying it.

So, are you going canvassing?
